Malaria is a global health issue affecting millions of people. Anyone can be infected with malaria, but it mainly affects travelers with no prior exposure to malaria, pregnant females, children under the age of five, immunocompromised patients and chronically ill patients.
The potentially deadly parasite is often difficult to recognize and therefore treat as it has similar symptoms to other viral illnesses. Prevention therefore becomes critical. This course quickly reviews the pathophysiology of the disease and discusses critical measures for preventing malaria in areas that are at high risk.
